Qa: What are the risks to J.R. Murray and Snowbowl if they decide to move forward with the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)? What are the risks of not moving forward?
If J. R. Murray decides to go ahead with Environmental Impact Statement and start making snow, there are various risks associated with this decision. First of all, risk of fire would be increased as manmade snow is not an easy task to do and lots of tanks, pipelines, snow guns are needed to produce snow which significantly increases use of resources to make snow. Moreover, Snowbowl is located in forest area which intensifies this risk (Safe Work Australia, 2013). Furthermore, snow making is the process of converting water into snow which can create shortage of water as winter is the season where usually water quantity is reduced due to water freezing from very low temperatures. Thus, decision of J. R. Murray can create water shortages. In addition to these, location of Snowbowl is in such forest which is considered as sacred by native inhabitants and process of making snow might require cutting down some trees to make space resulting in harming believes of nearby habitants.
While on other hand, if J. R. Murray decides not to go for Environmental Impact Statement, there are risks associated with business as net loss would be expected due to shortage in natural snow fall.
