Interpretation of cross sections in drill holes, Rock Quality Designation (RQD), Excavability Chart, Strength values in drill holes

Your assignment submission will use a powerpoint template (provided) to prepare three graphics. the three drill holes used for this is (DH 16, DH 17 and DH 18) Graphic 1 will be cross-section with an overlay of the RQD values in your three drill holes. Graphic 2 will be cross-section with an overlay of the strength values in your three drill holes. Graphic 3 will be the Pettifer and Fookes 1994 excavatability chart with a summary table of material types in terms of RQD and strength. Show where the highest, lowest and common material types in the section, plot on the excavatability chart. Include a key of symbols or colours to make it clear. Pettifer and Fookes paper explains how to convert RQD to their discontinuity spacing index. One of the difficulties you will encounter is that the intervals used for the RQD data do not match the intervals used for other data such as the lithology codes. Therefore it will be difficult to correlate between the data sets. For this reason you will use your graphical cross-sections to see the relationships between the various parameters used. You can use the example graph spreadsheet from assignment 1 to create intervals for your RQD and strength data. You will also need to note how you dealt with converting strength descriptions to numbers and how you dealt with low and high values in some of the drillholes.
