I have been working in remote sql server db for years. Please make sure you have public ip for the remote server.

Scope of Work: As per my understanding of your requirement, I need to configure both your remote & local systems to enable you to connect & browse your remote SQL Server database/s from your local PC using MSSQL Management Studio. My Assumptions: 1) Your remote database server runs a Windows 2003/2008 R2/ XP/7 2) MSSQL Server versions 2005/2008. 3) Local System runs Win XP/7 OS with MS SQL 2005/2008 Client libraries & Tools installed, including Management Studio. 4) Remote Server has a Static IP address, with / without a Firewall. If with a firewall, then access to the same is available for it to be configured for opening MSSQL port. 5) Administrative rights to both the Remote & Local systems for situations where installations/configuration changes may need to be done.. 6) Access to the both the systems through Team Viewer, AmyAdmin, ShowMyPC etc. If through any other software, that needs to be given to me. I think that if odbc does not work, which I am willing to try, It will have to be done with an oledb provider using an IP address of the server, And may require some custom programming. It maybe possible to create a VBA program using ms-access to access the server, extract a copy of the data and report on it which way that you like. Reports are extra time. I have been working with SQLServer and Oracle for over 20 years. Is a very easy job but also i have to say to you that openning a database connection over internet is dangerous for it, because anyone could attack your database. Regards, Santiago Galli
