Corporate Financial Strategy Individual Coursework Semester 1: Year 2010/2011 Coursework requirement This piece of work is to be done on individual basis. Length of submission should not exceed 3000 words. Please note that the word limit is exclusive of supporting tables, graphs, calculations, appendices and a list of references. Each student is required to choose one of the following topics: 1. Select six listed UK companies from two different industries (one industry contains three companies) and conduct an empirical investigation on determinants of corporate dividend policy. Your answer should include a review of the literature on dividend setting behaviour. It should also describe your data collection and other relevant variables; conduct an appropriate statistical analysis and provide an interpretation of the results; collect other relevant information e.g. newspaper comments. Synthesise your findings to form a conclusion. 2. Select six listed UK companies from two different industries (one industry contains three companies) and conduct an empirical investigation on determinants of corporate capital structure. Your answer should include a review of the literature on capital structure. It should also describe your data collection and other relevant variables; conduct an appropriate statistical analysis and provide an interpretation of the results; collect other relevant information e.g. newspaper comments. Synthesise your findings to form a conclusion. You can choose any industries in the London Stock Exchange except for the following: • Financial institutions, including banks, financial services and insurance, investment companies and real estate companies • Utility companies
