From a Windows machine I need to be able to discover the DHCP assigned IP Address of an Ubuntu 14.04 box. I want something lightweight (do not want to go the Bonjour, etc route). I envision a small-footprint process on the Linux box that will respond to a broadcast on the local network - replying with a non-broadcast packet to the originating machine with the DHCP Assigned Network information of the box along with the name of the box. On the Windows side I would like a small C# or VB.Net example of how to send and receive the broadcast packet so I can build it into my Windows software.
The specs are quite clear. While the Windows side is supposed to receive a directly addressed packet (as you described), listening for a broadcast shouldn't be much different...
Kind regards,
