I need some software written for Windows XP/Vista to interact with a Bluetooth library and a set of existing webservices. The software will browse for Bluetooth devices within range and then report its findings back to a WebService. A basic version of this code is running, but is not reliable, and needs to be re-written. The software is to be written in VB.NET 2005 with all source and Installers provided. My demo code will be provided on to the successful coder.

## Deliverables

I need some software written for Windows XP/Vista to interact with a Bluetooth library and a set of existing webservices. The software will browse for Bluetooth devices within range and then report its findings back to a WebService. A basic version of this code is running, but is not reliable, and needs to be re-written. The software is to be written in VB.NET 2005 with all source and Installers provided. My demo code will be provided on to the successful coder.

The software will use [url removed, login to view]’s [url removed, login to view] Bluetooth Stack

There are two be two versions of the software. One will operate as a Windows GUI, usually residing in the system tray. The other version will operate as a windows service. Apart from the different modes of operating, both programs should share as much common code as possible.

The software needs to browse for devices as often as possible. About every 15 seconds would be normal, but this would be stored in and settings.

Any settings would be able to be remotely updated via a Web Site. The URL would be something like

[url removed, login to view]:22:33:44:55:66

This would return a static page which you will define containing common settings including

URL of the Web Service

Username

Password

CompanyID

Polling frequency

The software would check for new settings about an hour after each restart of the program. Checking for settings would be able to be disabled also by a local setting. All the download of settings from the Web Server does is update the local settings anyway.

The Bluetooth stack is a bit touchy, and I have found in testing that restarting the demo application I have written is enough to cause the stack to operate normally. Obviously there has to be a better way. I am sure that you will know what that is.

It is important that the software operate in a manner that does not cause problems when a Bluetooth device or network access have been removed or are not present. The software only needs to operate when both are present and does not need to store data if the network is not present. Trying again if the WebService is temporarily unavailable is fine, but after 10 seconds the scanned Bluetooth information is no longer valid and does not need to be uploaded.
