We are searching an Editor/proofreader that is an educated, highly literate native US English speaker to edit/proofread texts written or translated into English by non-native speakers, whose level of English, nevertheless, is quite close to that of an educated native speaker. The texts need to be checked, and any grammar, punctuation, style or word usage mistakes/inconsistencies corrected. The subjects vary: from general business, marketing, news and media articles to more technical subjects, like IT, finance, legal etc. Special requirements: texts are written as SEO friendly texts and shall be SEO friendly also after editing/proofreading. We need someone very responsible, reliable and with an excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. This could become an ongoing casual work opportunity for the right person. We will give you assignments as they become available. We will provide a spreadsheet for you to keep records of the articles you edit. Your bid should be for editing/proofreading 100 (500 words each) articles. Price is approximately .50 cents per 500 words. Please bid accordingly. In your bid please include the following: 1. Subjects you feel comfortable with for editing/proofreading jobs 2. Your turn-around times: how many words per day can you edit/proofread on average 3. A little about yourself: your education, experience with editing, proofreading, writing, etc. 4. Please explain the difference between a proofreader and an editor’s responsibilities. Thank you for reading and bidding on our project.

I would like to help you with this proofreading/editing assignment. I have done quite a bit of this for different types of texts, from IT technical articles and papers, to academic works, to casual articles. I should be able to comfortably edit/proof 15 500-word articles a day, and could do as many as 25 if shorter turn-around is required. I have 2 graduate degrees and work as a project manager in an IT/Engineering environment. I would be comfortable editing/ proofing articles on technical topics (IT, engineering), articles of an academic nature, as well as casual writing, extended blog type posts, and articles covering literary topics. Finally, to answer your question I see the proofreader's job to validate that correct spelling and grammar are used, and that what is written flows and makes sense to the reader. I see an editor more focused on validating content, ensuring that the content is supported, and that the work is properly sourced. Thanks and look forward to working with you.

I work regularly for another company doing the same thing, Webwise Media. I'm sure the owner, Vlad, will provide a reference, but I can't give you his email address here; tried and it took it out. My bid is $1.00 per page. I am able to provide past work and references, if you'd like. When I edit, I not only proofread the book, but I also provide the author with content notes that discuss suggested changes in regard to characters, plot, themes, story lines, and such. I hold two master's degrees and am an experienced editor. I have written three peer reviewed books, the latest to be published in June, and many other publications, all of which I proofread extensively before sending for publication. I have been an indexer for the journal "Provenance: The Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists" since 2003. I have also provided the professional level indexing for all of my books. From 2002-2007 I owned and operated Cantadora Press and did all the editing and proofreading for all the books, pamphlets, and journal issues we published. From 2008-2010, I taught college-level American history courses and spent a lot of my time teaching my students how to write properly, including: grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and diction. Their semester-long projects entailed many drafts of paragraphs and larger sections before final submittal. Now that I own an editing business and have worked with freelancing sites like oDesk, Elance, Freelancer, and Guru, I have edited multiple books, articles, and Web sites for content. I have always delivered excellent quality editing for a great price. I deliver my product in the time limit specified in the contract. In the past few months I have edited two vampire romance novels, a werewolf romance novel with accompanying short stories, a western series of 4 books based in Wyoming that has a Kung Fu twist, a contemporary book about President Obama's public speaking secrets, an action thriller about a presidential election, a futuristic sci-fi thriller, an exercise manual, a technical manual for doing computer forensics, two family counseling case studies books, an eBook on how to do SEO, a master's thesis on the smartphone industry, a Medieval history textbook, a church history book, a western novel, a forex trading ebook, two ebooks about dealing with creditors and credit bureaus (from different authors), a medical treatise, a heart-wrenching autobiography, a conference report on international relations, an ebook on the credit bureaus and how to conquer them, and a short crime fiction ebook. I have great skills and no one can edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, or style like I can. I have also edited technical ebooks on the future of cell phones and on the tablet industry. I have also edited websites and smaller jobs like sales letters, cover letters, and brochures. I am a native US English speaker. I feel that my twenty plus years of experience editing and proofreading my own projects and those of others make me an ideal candidate for your freelance editor position. You will find others with perhaps lower bids for this project. Many of those will be either non-native English speakers or editors with little education and experience in editing. I am a native speaker (US) and I have the education and experience you want in order to deliver you the best possible editing job. I hope you will consider me for this position and hire me. I can get started right away and my dependability means we can work together for a long time.

Subjects: Science, Law, Business, Finance, News, Medicine. Daily turnaround: 10,000 words. PhD in Linguistics; editing and proofreading medical/scientific reports since 1990. Proofreading does not address substantive issues, just writing mechanics; editing involves critique of the content.

Hi, I'm bidding to proofread 100 500 word articles. A proofreader will check for grammatical, stylistic, and punctuation errors. An editor will offer more substantive revisions. I understand you to be seeking the former not the latter. I hold a PhD in American literature and am the co-editor of three published volumes of literary criticism, as well as a well-published author in my own right. I'm a fanatic for detail - a real perfectionist. In group projects I've noticed that I'm always the one who catches the stray typo that everyone else misses. :-) I am more comfortable with general rather than technical topics, although I have edited engineering documents a number of times and can accurately correct a grammatical, punctuation or usage error even when the sentence is so technical as to seem meaningless to my literary brain :-) Turn-around time varies on how much advance notice I have and how full my work schedule is, but in general I should be able to manage 30-50 short articles a day.

Hello, I would be comfortable editing a wide range of subjects. I feel like the real work is in the editing, regardless of what subject the writing is on. Editing is editing. If each article were around 500 words, I could easily do 50 articles a day, if not more. I have my MA in Women's Studies and my BA in English. I have written book reviews and edited them for many websites before, and am comfortable editing articles with SEO. Proofreading is scanning over a document and making sure there are no typos, where as editing is proofreading, but goes further than that by also checking the grammar and spelling are correct. Along with this, the editor's job is to make sure the content makes sense and is succinct and readable. Thanks for your consideration! Chelsey

Hello! I am a recent cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin who holds BA degrees in history and Spanish. As such ,I am very comfortable with every step of the writing process, including editing and revision. I have completed coursework in advanced grammar in both English and Spanish. I am at ease with completing any task asigned, no matter the subject. I estimate that I can complete 3,000 words a day, or 50 articles at 500 words each, per your ad. I feel that proofreading applies only to grammar errors, while editing applies not only to grammar but stylistic inconsistencies throughout the work. I can provide samples of my own academic writing to illustrate my competency. Thank you for your time and consideration.
