Active mobile device backup system - AMDBS

Functionality description

The backup system is designed to automatically copy the contents of a mobile device over the mobile data network (GPRS/3G/LTE) onto a central server connected to Internet – the system should be managed centrally through a provisioning interface where basic settings are predefined but should also be available for end user management through a secure web interface.

Provisioning system

Provisioning is user activated through an SMS being sent to the mobile device with a link serving as licence acceptance and service initiation. Provisioning can be achieved by customer typing his/her phone number on website or sending SMS to service number 7X XXX.

User interface

User should be able to set preferences through web interface, including:

Backup frequency

Backup type (see below) depending on available disk space purchased

Device type

The following devices are prioritized:

Nokia E75

Nokia X6

Nokia 5800

Nokia N900, N97

Sony ericsson X1, X2, G900, Satio

Apple iPhone 3GS

Backup service

Automatic backup is scheduled at regular, user-defined intervals through polling.

In case device is unavailable on schedule, should backup be initiated on next contact.

In case backup is discontinued by device or by network, it should be restarted at next contact.

Backup volume settings should be enabled depending on service type, with SMS triggered when maximum volume is reached for additional purchase of storage space.

User is able to purchase different disk space depending on stage required (see below) and mobil device memory. These settings should be 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8 GB, 16GB, 32GB.

Backup should be available in the following stages:

Stage 1: contact list, calendar

Stage 2: picture and video files

Stage 3: SMS/MMS content

Stage 4: Program content and personal settings: downloaded programs and applications, themes, ring/video tones.

Stage 5: History: call lists (missed/outgoing/incoming), web history and favourites.

Recovery

Recovery should be initiated through a web interface by user. User indicates phone number and phone model (in case of new model) and receives a link by SMS for download of backup data over the mobile data network and automatic recovery and installation onto device.
