We are proud to be Canadian citizens for well over three decades and hope that these additional efforts ensure we are doing whatever is required to meet the standards of the Government of Canada. My wife and I do not know exactly what happened with her filing in 2016, but we had to pay $2,703.38 in penalties and interest on October 30, 2018 (see enclosed / 1), regarding a foreign property we purchased in T&T to spend some of the winter months. It is now being rented. We provided all appropriate documents and information to Bright Vision Financial Corp., Mrs. Siv, our Accountant of several years to file our 2016 Taxes. For the past 40 years I paid for Tax services because I do not understand these things. I Vis was contacted by my bank TD and CRA, to provide information regarding foreign investments (see enclosed / 2). My wife Mala, was not contacted by anyone to provide same information. I'm 67 years old, retired and we could barely meet our financial obligations. This is a lot of money, not money we can afford to lose. My wife is 63 years old, she has been a housewife most of her life and she now has to work to support us. We hope you can find it in your heart to personally review our case or allow us a Tax Payers Meeting to resolve this situation, and to prevent future ones. And ask the CRA to cancel or waive penalties and interest of $2,703.38 and please return this money to us. We have learnt amongst many things to be honest and we are intelligent enough to know that we cannot fool the CRA. We need your empathy in this matter.
