although new on freelancer, I have more then 10 years of acad experience and I've worked on cnc machines, designing and building moulding prototypes for the fashion industry.

I am doing Mechanical Engineering from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences & Technology, Pakistan. I have done diploma of 3 months in AutoCAD.

I am aware of such work as I produce cutting plans for our shipyard in terms of our steel work but we only have manual cutting torches and not CNCs so detailing might be a little different but never the less I know what I would be doing.

It also depends on what, if any program, the water jet/laser cutter is using. If its an "optic" tracing cutter then you will need a carbon print/plot (not an ink jet) as the infra red optic tracers don't read inkjet print. If the cutter has its own cad/cam program then its best to find out what file extension format will be of use and how if at all that affects the process of drawing. for example some follow your drawing routine step by step and cut accordingly, which may not be ideal, or at least needs to be catered for during the drawing process. And I use AutoCAD 2007 for drawing and Trueview (free download from Autodesk) to translate the drawing files from newer versions so the AutoCAD 2007 will read them, and I believe they should open normally in in AutoCAD LT (at least as a DXF file).
