[login to view URL] is a very new tech article website targeted to home end-users. A review of the articles that have already been published will help to accomplish two things: - Establish the target audience scope in the writer's mind - Set the tone and expectation of level of content quality This tech article site is designed to bridge the gap between the end-user who knows next to nothing about technology and has had very little exposure to technology, and bring them to a zero level on the technology plane where they begin to adopt and apply Information Technology terminologies, concepts, and best practices. Articles must be straight to the point, of optimal length (will not turn away readers with a short attention span due to excessive length), insightful, informative, and give even moderately seasoned computer users something to take away (see "How do I turn my computer on?" - a fundamental article which not only describes how to turn one's computer on, but is also seasoned with some next level tech know-how such as what the power button symbol represents). They must be well researched topics using the latest trends, facts, studies, etc and it must be balanced research (e.g. ZDNet's "Why HTML5 is in trouble on the mobile front" article is a bad source for arguing that HTML5 is not a suitable language for developing web applications). At the end of each article, the user must be able to do something with what they've spent their time reading. If someone wanted to know how to use the Internet safely, they must be as thoroughly educated as possible on doing just that, albeit keeping the article as concise as possible. Articles submitted become property of [login to view URL] along with all copyrights and rights reserved. This is a closed community resource where we reserve the right to turn down writer applications based on content quality and article performance (how well it has helped people and demand). However, we are also interested in continuing to offer writing opportunities for writers that meet and exceed our expectations. Finally, writers are expected to be prepared to accompany articles with minimalistic yet professional looking royalty free illustrations or images if and only if required to achieve a better understanding of the topic being covered for the reader. ## Deliverables As a means of filtering bids, we are asking you provide a minimum the following in order to qualify your bid to be considered: Provide a concise 300-word article of any tech topic of your choosing, targeted to the home end-user that fulfills the expectations we've set in this description. This will describe to us your understanding of our target audience and ability to teach efficiently through your writing. Article must be original and must not exceed 300 words from start to finish. This should be easy if you adhere to this one simple tip: don't pick an overly complicated topic to discuss. Provide a clean looking diagram of a basic home network topology showing the relationship between a computer, a switch and/or router, and a cable modem. This may be wired or wireless. Devices must be labeled. Provide a link to an article you've published on the web and currently receive organic traffic to (no need to provide analytics or reports, we will take your word for this part; no need for exuberant traffic stats either, 100 in the past 6 months is fine too). Articles that can be found by doing a Google search using the keywords you provide would be preferred. Tie-breaker: As our content requirements are very straightforward and basic, being targeted to home end-users, we anticipate many competent and able writers who will be able to successfully fill the role of being our very first part-time outside content writer. Funding is limited, but we've already been approved for paid advertising and are looking for opportunities to further monetize the site. The goal is to establish a passive stream of revenue that will enable us to continue offering ongoing writing opportunities for writers who have proven to be the most faithful, supportive of our vision, with a positive and optimistic attitude. That said, for this first round, the tie-breaker between two or more equally capable writers will be the highest number of quality articles pledged for the maximum bid agreed upon (whether this is 2, or 5, or 10, etc). To help better qualify what we mean by submitting "quality article," an acceptable starting point would be 1 hour of research and writing per 300-400 word article. The "How do I turn my computer on?" article was finalized after about 1.5-2 hours of research, writing, editing, proofreading, revising, and having a second proofreader look it over. The total word count for this article is 265 words as reported by Microsoft Word. We don't expect every article to be laborious or drudgery for the writer, but we do observe high expectations and are self-conscious of the level of usefulness and quality we are putting out through our articles. We hope you will join us to that end. * * * Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. Because funding is limited at this time, we are letting you, the writer, let us know what time frame you think is reasonable to have as many quality written articles completed for the set maximum bid amount. We are hoping to draw self-motivated writers and less money-motivated workers who can share our vision for pouring free and accessible technology training into homes everywhere. If you have ideas on marketing as well, let us know!
