Hi, I have a spreadsheet that i am using during the transition from an excel spreadsheet job system to a new online system. The idea is that i dump a load of data from my excel version into the first tab on the spreadsheet, and then a dump of data from the new system into the second tab. I then need VBA to look up the information and highlight the cell if it does not match the same cell on the opposite spreadsheet. The job number is the constant number on both sheets, so need to say "If job xyz on sheet 1 appears on sheet 2, check column N on sheet 2, and if this does not match column F on Sheet 1, highlight the cell in Red, and highlight the job number in red too, and if it does not appear, highlight the job number in blue". I DO NOT WANT CONDITIONAL FORMATTING!! The actual sheet has over 10,000 lines on each and over 100 columns. Formatting makes it too slow to work, and breaks very easily. The third tab on the sheet is a cross reference to say what the column on the second sheet relates too on the first sheet. PLEASE ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU ACCEPT THE JOB IF YOU ARE UNCLEAR! THE ATTACHMENT IS LIVE DATA THAT YOU WILL WORK WITH, IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND IT PLEASE DONT BID ON THIS.

Greetings! I have a couple of questions - 1) I presume that the example given was just an illustration "check column N on sheet 2, and if this does not match column F " of requirement. When I look up the "Key" Worksheet, Col F is mapped to Col H and Col N is mapped to Col I. 2) I presume that the look up is one way - from "Existing Excel Sheet" to "Smartsheet Sheet" and not the other way around - is that correct? Being a full time freelancer working exclusively on Excel based projects, I work on developing macros every single day. I have 18 years experience in using Excel as part of my daily work life. Over the last 27 MONTHS , I have spent at least 250 HOURS on automation in Excel every month. Have a Great Weekend! Srinivasan

I have understood the requirement and can write a code to highlight the differences in red and missing data in blue based on the mapping in the "key" sheet. I have excellent command on MS Excel. I have completed complex projects in Excel before . For instance - Built a delivery schedule for pick-up and drop of raw-material under given constraints optimizing the utilization of available resources - Get match details, odds and stats of tennis matches and place bet automatically on betfair (API), pinnacle (API) and tennisinsight (scraping) websites - Buy and sell bitcoins on Coinfloor and GDAX using respective APIs - Built a POS and inventory management system - Built a hotel price comparison that pulls data using the website's API You can see the reviews of the same in my profile Thanks, Archana

Hello, The project description is pretty clear to me. Here is what I understood: Match the Job Number in both Sheets and then Match the Quotation Number. If it does match color it Red else Blue. I don' t see any questions. Let's connect, I can do it now and send you within an hour. Thanks, Rayyan

Hello I would be happy to help with your vba issue. I appreciate how conditional formatting can slow down a job with a large data set. I would look to create a macro that would look up the job from both sheets and if it doesn't match then use VBA to colour the cell. My only question on this is whether the Job number will always be unique and so there would be no duplicate entries within a single sheet> My name is Steve, I have over 10 years experience working with excel and vba where I automated many tasks. I'm sure that I will be able to complete this task efficiently and quickly. I have 5* feedback from all my projects and always meet tight deadlines. I hope to hear back from you soon. Kind regards Steve

Hi, I have 5+ years of experience in MS Excel, and VBA programming. I think you meant to say Column "AF" on sheet 1 instead of Column "F" that corresponds to Column "N" in sheet 2. Just a couple of clarifications: * do you need to highlight entries in both sheets if they don't match or just the reference sheet? * do you want to cross-reference each entry by order or to lookup a job no. in the other sheet to see if it exists even if not in the same order of the list? Would love to discuss further details and start working on your project right away. Regards, Samer

Hello, I saw your project and I can create a solution that works for you. I am an experienced programmer, and also have great project management skills, so will be able to handle this professionally for you. My understanding is there is 1 column you are checking, but if there are more let me know please. 1 Column on Sheet1, against 1 column on Sheet2, where the job number is xyz ; highlight the column on sheet1, if it doesn't match sheet 2. I try to create a great overall project experience for my clients as well as a good solution and am available for communication throughout a project (and after). We are also in the same timezone and this will be useful for communication I think. All my clients have rated my work 5*s, please see my profile to read some of my recent reviews! Best, Gary.

Hi! First of all - employing VBA in it's usual manner (single thread parsed inline) is always going to be slower than what conditional formatting can achieve, simply because the latter is a compiled and optimized dll rather than parsed at each run as VBA is. That's a fact. Now, if VBA is engaged in a multi-threaded(quasi-multi actually, because true multi-threading is impossible in this wrap-up) the odds could be turned in its favor. Now with all the above being said and understood, there's several questions I need you to answer to clarify the requisites of this job: 1) Because you listed all 'mapping' columns, taking a note that you have reordered columns, does this mean that it needs to compare all these column pairs before deciding if it is the same, and if any of the pairs does not match would it immediately 'red'-color and skip next pairs for that row? Or it would always check all pairs(maybe you imagined a scenario where each pair would bring different color, I don't know)? 2) What would happen if it encounters multiples of the same job number in eiher, or both, compared sheets(whether this is possible or not is not understood from the brief you have already written)? Please elaborate further in great detail on these two. 3) Version and OS(Windows, with version, or Mac. The VBA has drastically different capabilities between the two) of the excel install you'd be employing for this? 4) Does the computer this will run on permits execution of arbitrary VBS code?

Hi, I already got your requirement working in VBA coding. However, there are doubts which I want to clarify with you: 1. Which sheet you want to perform the colour formatting? Sheet1 or Sheet2? 2. Do you want the cell fill colour to be changed to either red or blue OR the font colour to be changed to either red or blue? Following questions are raised based on the assumption that the formatting is demanded on Sheet2 and font colour. Will reverse if otherwise. 2. Job xyz (Column A of both sheets) appears on both sheet but Column N of Sheet2 does not match with Column F of sheet 1 --> Red text on Sheet 2 Column A and Column N (Corresponding row only), correct me if I am wrong. 3. Job xyz (Column A of both sheets) appears on Sheet2 but not Sheet 1 --> Blue text on Sheet2 Column A only (Corresponding row only), correct me if I am wrong 4. Job xyz (Column A of both sheets) appears on both sheets, Column N of Sheet2 equal to Column F of sheet 1 --> What colour should the formatting be? I can deliver the project within one day from your confirmation. Payment is only necessary after you review and satisfied with my work, as per my payment milestone “Upon Satisfactory Project Completion”. Looking forward to working on this project. Best Regards, Lau
