Due to the slow acoustic propagation of acoustic waves the data rates in underwater acoustic communications can be achieved is relatively very low compared to RF channels in the air. In this work we will study through Matlab simulations first and then experimentally the performance of uniquely decodable ternary code sets that can provide many more users then the conventional CDMA ternary codes sets. The main challenge of this project is to design and experiment advanced receivers that could potentially mitigate the high multipath and Doppler effect present in the underwater acoustic channels.
