Sony Camera has provided a camera api ([login to view URL]) that enables remote camera control over wifi network. The api explains how to control one camera functions such as recording and stopping a movie.
Sony even further made possible that users control multiple cameras with an app called Play memories mobile ([login to view URL]), which later became Image Editing Mobile. However it doesn’t explain how to configure multi camera to control the cameras at the same time.
Currently, HDR AS-50, one of Sony action cameras has two built in wifi modes; one is the single wifi mode and the other is the multi wifi mode. The single wifi mode sets its wifi to act as an AP and connect with a mobile phone directly if the phone provides the camera’s SSID and passphrase correctly.
The multi wifi mode, which I would like to know how it works, lets the cameras connect with a mobile phone and receive the phone’s hotspot configuration(SSID and passphrase). With multiple cameras and a mobile phone exchanging SSIDs and passphrases, Sony Image Editing Mobile connects with multiple cameras and controls the cameras at once.
My goal is to find out how the multi wifi mode works, its technology, and identify tech stacks to build a custom iOS or Android app to control multi camera utilizing the Sony camera API.
