I'm searching for someone passionate about designing the UI (and handling the UX) for a children's (and adults) language learning app, which will be initially based in China.
The app will teach reading, listening and speaking, using visual, gamified puzzles.
These include fill in the blanks exercises, mazes, word-building, drag and drop to the correct box, and some more arcade style games, like ninja cutting, bubble popping, and even escaping from a crocodile.
You will create delightful U.I icons and animations, using any available assets that you have, only where needed. The animations will feel fast, fluid, and life-like, as if they have their own personality.
The animations will make the app experience addictive and immerse, invoking many positive feelings in the user: desire, curiosity, delight, wonder, laughter, reward.
I'm a lover of clean user interfaces with few buttons. I love Apple's new iOS 13 UI for example, and I love the UI of the language apps called Duolingo and Drops. (I personally feel that no other app comes even close to those two in design aesthetic)... though I also believe in pushing the line and being a bit silly, and 'trying new things anyway!' ... This is a more Google-style philosophy.
You can check out these apps:
• Drops language
• Duolingo Kids
I can't access it on the App Store, though I also encourage you to check out:
• MindSnacks. If you can't access it, look at videos on the Internet.
So if you need an idea of the style... imagine if these apps all had a baby??
And the baby was willing to try new things and experiment more (Drops and Duo have stuck to the same formula for quite a long time)...
You will specialise in creating modern UI animations that are delightful, not annoying, and have a relevant feeling (I know UI trends are subjective, but it's still very obvious if a UI animation is from two years ago).
I also believe there is no time to waste, so we would be designing in a "compartmentalised" way.
This means assets would be reusable throughout the app, and unnecessary time wouldn't be spent on something that offered little to the user experience or education progression.
To start with, the UI design will be minimalist, opposed to MindSnacks which includes a lot of scenery. We will see where we go from there...
Also, in order to maintain consistent style everywhere in the brand, you will be asked to help with all design-related tasks.
So before you contact me:
• You specialise in creating/or helping to create, game UIs, icons and animations.
• See the files I've attached for an idea of the style, though ours still needs to be unique.
• Please read this correctly, and write a genuine response.
• Please share your portfolio so I can have a feeling for your style or abilities
I look forward to talking to you!!!
