The application of probabilistic and stochastic modeling methodologies to analyze the performance of production and service systems. Major topics include probability models for space planning, Poisson arrival processes, discrete and continuous time Markov chain models of machine cycle times, and queuing models applied to various industrial systems. Other applications of these tools to model inventories, process behavior, and equipment reliability is illustrated. Must: Formulate and apply probability models to selected production and service system problems to support better decisions. 2. Utilize basic probability concepts to derive expected values, variances, and apply these concepts to selected production and service system problems. 3. Describe/define a Poisson process and the role of exponential random variables in the Poisson process. Utilize the Poisson process as a model for stochastic behavior in production systems. 4. Utilize discrete and continuous time Markov chains to model and analyze the behavior of production and service systems. 5.
