Python Kafka consumer to consumer events from list of topic and generate a report of messages count

Hey, I can create the python based kafka consumer (based out of Confluent provided lib for kafka python) and report the message count. Since the project description only says consumer, i am assuming that the kafka is already installed and running and its just a matter of creating a consumer to get the messages. If this is not the case let me know and we an work on the kafka setup as well. Have question around where to feed the msg count, does it goes to some file or dashboard or to another topic on kafka ?
