GRE Over IPSec with Routing Protocols

Design and Implement GRE over IPSec between 2 head offices and 3 branch offices. In the end all 3 branches should be able to communicate each other. You will use BGP between Head office and Branch offices for IPv4 to enable internetwork communications. Between Head Offices you will run BGP where OSPF will be redistributed.


Create a network using Packet Tracer/GNS3. GRE over IPSec should contain these parameters.

· Mode: Main mode

· Authentication Method: Preshared Key

Phase 1:

· Encryption: AES128 or Higher

· Authentication: SHA256 or Higher

· DH Group: 5 or Higher


Phase 2:

· Encryption: AES128 or Higher

Authentication: SHA256 or Higher

Task 1: Your design must include 5 routers connected to each other using IPv4.

Task 2: Configure IPSec Between all sites

Task 3: Configure GRE on top of the IPSec

Configure BGP with branch routes to be available in HO and vice versa

OSPF should contain these options:

· Bandwidth

· Cost

· Authentication

· Default routes

Task 4:

a) Enable authentication.

b) Establish the DR and BDR using the router id command.

Task 5: Configure the bandwidth or cost to favour one route.

Task 6: Add a network containing end devices and a passive OSPF interface.

Task 7: Add a route to a default network such as the Internet/WAN on both HO routers with priority on HO-1, in case of failover HO-2 should be active without manual intervention.
