I have almost 8 external tables on 4 production databases. Oracle version 12.2 and Oracle 11.2. Linux operating system. Your issue not necessarily has to be access matters, could be wrong data in text file, for example, I had issues reading non asccii chars, or double byte chars for example. Have you checked ORA-00600 with argument [kpxsFetchDriver_01] with Oracle Support?. Have you tried your external table with other linux server?. I might be able to help you.
