In this project, you’ll compile a list of all the different ‘diff’ modules that are available for use or licensing, and then in a later phase, research them and compare their capabilities.
## Deliverables
This project will occur in 2 phases:
* PHASE 1 ??" 20% of total bid value, due within 3 days of bid acceptance.
-- In phase 1, you’ll need to identify and compile a list of all available ‘diff’ modules that are available, noting the following information for each one:
(a) what language is it written in;
(b) what platform will it run on;
(c) how much does it cost;
(d) what are the terms of its license (freeware? Public domain? Open source? If open source, specify what open source license it is distributed under, e.g. GPL, LGPL, etc.);
(e) what HTML/XML markup handling features does it have, if any;
You will also need to provide a list of websites that you used for your research.
After the completion and submission of deliverables for phase 1, it will be Software Buyer’s option to continue or to terminate the project. Either way, if the project was completed per specifications, you will be paid 15% of the total bid value for the completion of this phase.
* PHASE 2 ??" 80% of total bid value, due within full work period
-- In phase 2, you will need to do detailed research on 6-12 of the diff tools from your list in PHASE 1, or as provided by Software Buyer. For each, you will need to determine:
(a) Performance (measured speed to calculate diff of 10kb, 100kb, and 500kb documents)
(b) Detailed description of binary diff capabilities (images, word documents, etc.)
(c) Unit of difference for text (line by line, word by word, etc.)
(d) Details of markup (HTML/XML) handling
(e) Details of output format/syntax ??" i.e. what output does it produce?
(f) Capabilities to multiply diff 3 or more versions (i.e. diff versions 1,2,3,and 4 simultaneously vs. just diffing 2 at a time)
(g) Capabilities to cascade diffs (i.e. diff version 3 against a completed diff of versions 1 and 2)
(h) A list of notable software packages that use it
(i) Update history, support description, and description of the company/organization that sells or sponsors it
(j) Database requirements (persistence)
(k) Summary of APIs that it supports
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
## Platform
In Phase 1, review all identifiable libraries that are available for Windows, Linux, and other Unix platforms.
