Final Project The final project for the course requires the design and implementation of a comprehensive web site. Students may choose site goals (e.g., an internal web site for information sharing among employees, a B2C web site for selling personal watercraft, etc.) and implement a site to achieve the goals. For those students that have successfully completed MMIS 654, this project may demonstrate an implementation of part of the Electronic Commerce Application documented in their Electronic Commerce Application report. Note: It is recommended that the more complicated aspects of the application, such as shopping carts, be left for a subsequent course like MMIS 657. The project web site should, at a minimum, include the following. These should be viewed as MINIMUM technical requirements: 1. A design document 2. Use some HTML and advanced HTML features, including a form 3. Use Cascading Style Sheets 4. Use JavaScripts on the client side 5. Use server side scripting 6. Database connectivity Grading criteria Item Points 1. Implements minimum requirements (1-6 above) 15 2. Site structure and organization (e.g., directory/file structures, file naming conventions, maintainability, use of templates, etc.) 4 3. Attractive site (graphics/multimedia, etc.) 1 4. Implementing a feature (either client-side or server-side) that is not discussed in the class. 5 Total 25 Completing item 1 demonstrates that a student has acquired a minimum of the exit competencies for the course. Item 2 is a crucial feature of any large scale web site design and may be dependent on the application framework utilized. An ill-planned site is a nightmare to maintain. Item 3 (attractiveness), is a very desirable feature of a site, but it takes a lot of time and user testing to come up with excellent graphical design which is outside the scope of this course. Item 4 requires a student to implement a technique or a feature that is not discussed in the class notes or the text. Web development frequently requires using open source code and documentation provided with tools and this is intended to encourage innovation in this area. The project is subjectively graded. Submitting the final project Responses for written exercises must be in APA format. Responses for programming exercises must be submitted as a single .zip file that mirrors the site structure used. Source code files for compiled Final Project components may be included in a folder called “source” which should not contain any files used in the real- time execution. Please makes sure you include all of the following in the zip file: 1. Source code files (i.e., .html, .js, .css, .fla, .aspx, etc.) 2. Compiled code for Flash (.swf) 3. Either a Word document (.doc or .docx) with screenshots of a web browser showing your working code (one document for the entire assignment) or a URL to an Internet site where working versions of your assignments can be accessed. Note that, for the purpose of the final project, you do not need to implement everything you say in your design document and you could change your design document down the line. The design document, therefore, is NOT a contract for the final project. It is a tentative plan and a contract you write with yourself. Therefore, you are strongly discouraged from manipulating the design document with an eye on the course grade.
