Folks, I am trying to capture live IPTV streamed video and save it to an MP4 video on my PC. However, due to the nature of streaming and Internet networks, the stream often craps out and aborts, saving only a partial MP4 recording. My wife gets very upset with me! I have tried various utilities, including VLC.exe. However, none of the utilities I have tried is tolerant of any kind of streaming and/or network blips as noted above. Between VLC and another utility I have come across – FFMpeg – I believe if I find the right programmer who is familiar with these utilities and video processing in general, I can overcome this common issue with commonly-used utilities. Both utilities are command line driven and have a “time to record” option too (like, “Record for 120 minutes and stop” for example). The problem is that both crap out with an error. Ironically though, I was able to do a 2-hour VLC recording overnight! So, what I am looking for is a programmer who can do the following using a utility (free is preferred) such as VLC or FFMpeg 1) Run the initial VLC/FFMpeg job and begin saving the stream to disk to a particular file (say, for example, “[login to view URL]”). Let’s say the initial run is for 5 minutes. 2) Monitor the progress of the capture. If an error is seen (let’s say at minute 2), restart the VLC/FFMpeg job for a (now shorter) duration of time of 3 minutes. Save the 2nd file (or append to the original file). 3) Log any errors to an error file. 4) Rinse and repeat step #2 and #3 above until the entire duration of time is captured. 5) If a MP4 video concatenation was done in Step #2 above, the final MP4 should be good to go. Otherwise, join/concatenate the remnant MP4 files into the final MP4 file. If the final video is choppy or misses a few seconds, that’s not a problem. NOTE: I can provide a URL to pull live video from the Internet as you see fit. I have this for an expert with VLC and/or FFMpeg, but if you have a better free utility that you like, I’m all ears! You may even have knowledge of a fix already for this and/or can quickly write up your own “kinder and gentler” utility. FYI, below is a snippet of an FFMPeg error I just got literally 15 minutes ago while writing up this spec: Stream ends prematurely at 53866512, should be 184467440737095516150 speed=0.379x [login to view URL]: I/O error [login to view URL]: I/O error9 bitrate=1979.9kbits/s dup=4 drop=0 speed=0.38x Thanks all!
