We have a requirement to develop an application for MS Windows. The application should be able to run as a screensaver and render HTML content using Internet Explorer interfaces. Similiar in functionality as this app: http://thewebscreensaver.com.
In addition it should be able to connect to a source, eg. a remote XML-feed to list «channels» of HTML-pages to show. So that the user can choose which HTML content to display as the screen saver.
We would be using this as a system for digital signage in stores.
Please do not make a bid for this job unless you have read an understood the description. I would very much like the proposal to contain some sort of proposal for a solution.
I am an experienced programmer, with more than 10 years of experience.
I understand exactly what you need.
I promise you will be satisfied with my work.
Thank you for your trust.

Hello, my proposal is based on the following approach: wrap the webbrowser activex control in the screensaver. As for the connection to an external XML, you'll have to provide more details on how you need to connect to it: remote database or from a website directly?
Sir,
We are a team of skilled and experienced programmers. Kindly let me know your project requirement so that we can proceed further.
Thanks and Regards,
Amit M.
Hello, my name is George Bouris.
I am very experienced in software development, so I can take over your project.
In my opinion an even better approach (than using a IE interface) may be to use PhantomJS. It is WebKit based (so, better compatibility with web standards, lighter and faster) and since it will render the web content into an image (can update it regularly), it will behave more like an ordinary screen saver.
This approach, also allows, to add transition effects when the content updated or if multiple sources selected or, in the latter case, multiple sources to be displayed on the same screen. Another possibility is to overlay other content, like your brand or your client's brand.
The only reason to use a real browser (IE) would be if you need to display content that incorporates video.

Hello,
I have 25+ years of experience in Windows programming.
I would achieve your project goal by following the steps below.
1. Make a .NET Windows Forms application using a WebBrowser control on it.
2. Set the start page as your designated website or from an XML list.
3. Make an installer using Inno setup to install the app and change necessary registry keys in Windows to set the app as the default screen saver.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding my proposal.
Best,
Poet
