Improve existing linux startup and shutdown service script

In our OpenSuSE 12.3 servers, we have one startup and shutdown service script at /etc/init.d/ that we want to have improved. We would really appreciate if it could be done during this weekend, as it is an easy task. It already works. We just want to improve it, for instance: - We have already implemented start and stop. We would like to have implemented restart, status, reload and force reload options - On start, make sure it is not already started - Make sure only privileged users can run it - Rename it and create a symbolic link with the old name - Make it compatible with other RPM based linux distributions such as RedHat or Fedora - Improve management of nohup files We will provide the script to candidates that show evidence of previous experience in similar tasks. Selected bidder will be provided ssh access to the server where the script is running. Thanks
