Hello, Based on your project description you want to build a web service that will be based on the USDA nutrient database. I would like to propose the following idea on how I envision the development of the web service: 1. If at the input is an URL with the recipe then using web scrapping analyze the text and split the data into ingredient parts or into foodstuffs. 2. If the input is a free text then split the information and try to detect the ingredients 3. Use an internal database of the food and ingredients and it's names for decoding 4. Access the remote USDA nutrient database using the parsed and collected foods and read their nutrient data. 6. Compose the result as XML, HTML or Image and return to the caller The biggest effort here will be to parse out the ingredients from any source, free text or either remote URL. Maybe It will be required even to apply some neural networks or similar techniques to extract the data. As more sophisticated the parsing system is it will give better and more precise results. If you are interested I am available to discuss about the whole idea and every single part. Also if you think that the solution must be simpler I will be happy too review my proposal.
