You are provided with the raw data (in four CSV files). An included README file describes the data set in detail, which includes information on troop size, location, temperature and dates.

Your job will be to manipulate the Napolean data in the ways described below, using SAS code only.

You will also be required to produce a single graphic and a short report, as described below.

Requirements:

• prep the original three data sets and create a SAS dataset for each csv file

• merge the three data sets (using SAS code) into a single data set for the purposes of analysis, where each observation corresponds to a date in the campaign, and has the following variables:

o date

o longitude

o latitude

o city

▪ the name of the city, when the troops are in that city; should have the form "City1-City2" when the troops are in between City1 and City2

o troops

▪ number of troops

o temperature

▪ temperature in degrees Celsius

o latitude

▪ degrees latitude from Kowno (the starting point)

o longitude

▪ degrees longitude from Kowno

o x

▪ kilometres latitude from Kowno:

▪ calculate this by converting degrees latitude to kilometre: 1 degree latitude is about 111 km.

o y

▪ kilometres longitude from Kowno:

▪ calculate this by converting degrees longitude to kilometre: 1 degree longitude is about 63.5 km (at the approximate latitudes relevant here).

o distance

▪ distance from last site (0 at start of campaign in Kowno) in kilometres.

▪ positive for advance, negative for retreat

▪ calculate using the following formula:

• ????????= √(?2−?1)2+(?2−?1)2

• where

o ?1 is ? for the previous observation

o ?2 is ? for the current observation

o ?1 is ? for the previous observation

o ?2 is ? for the current observation

o velocity

▪ velocity (km/day)

▪ calculate using the following formula:

• ????????=????????# ?? ???? ????? ???? ???????????

• Include as many dates as you have information about in the data.

• You may calculate or extrapolate (guess) missing dates if necessary, but missing temperatures should be left as missing (the dataset only has temperature data for the retreat).
