We search for an expert who can design a new pfSense firewall system for a datacenter. Your job is to document the existing Cisco ASA network and to provide the documentation for the new pfSense. Also part of the job is to consult us in a new solution how to setup best the new network for IPv4 and IPv6. Also part of the job is to share us how you want to document NAT and firewall rules and how to ensure that they will stay documented in the future. Since we get often application/proposals of "experts" with no real hands on experience in the requested topic, please provide us: - how big is your currently maintained network with pfSense (how many IPs, how many networks, how many VLANs) - how is your pfSense connected to the IXP (bandwidth, technology, redundancy)? - how is your pfSense connected to the internal network (bandwidth, technology, redundancy)? - how many pfSense setups have you done in the last 2 years? - how you ensure ongoing documentation of firewalls (topology, nat and firewall rules) with multiple administrative persons? - what is the best practice for IPv4 and IPv6 setup? We are searching for someone to get started with our new pfSense in real environment. We have a lab setup with already good experience in it. Also we would like to have someone on the long run to take responsibility for the full firewall in the future. Our expertise is about 25y+ in IT business, so do not try to trick us, we will evict you forever from our acceptance list. Play honest and fair and we do also. Name us your real experience and we may still consider you if you play honest, even if you have some lack of skills. Also we do not disclose any budgets or hourly rates we want to pay. Please place your best bid, also do not try to ask us for the budget, since we will not answer.

- how big is your currently maintained network with pfSense (how many IPs, how many networks, how many VLANs) I am looking into the network administration of a company in USA. Implemented IPv6 for them on pfsense. /24 subnet and 3-4 VLANs - how is your pfSense connected to the IXP (bandwidth, technology, redundancy)? Each data center has redundant pfsense firewalls and cisco equipment. - how is your pfSense connected to the internal network (bandwidth, technology, redundancy)? On each data center pfsense is connected to LAN switches. - how many pfSense setups have you done in the last 2 years? As mentioned earlier, I did IPv6 setup in last 8 months for 3 data centers of company - how you ensure ongoing documentation of firewalls (topology, nat and firewall rules) with multiple administrative persons? change in firewall is followed by approvals from the management. After the changes are made after approval, the password will be changed and will be shared when next approved requirements comes. - what is the best practice for IPv4 and IPv6 setup? depends on many things. Come up with your current environment and i will tell you the best design. Thanks

Hi there. I am a network/system administrator security focused with 5+ years of experience working in corporate network environments for government and private companies, and implementing firewall solutions as pfSense (the one I like most). Replying to your questions: - Currently, I just maintain a pfSense for my own (small company): 1 public ip, 15 network devices. - My currently pfSense setup is just an adsl connection, but, I configured the last year 2 dedicated fiber channel 5 mbps each one with fail over. - I have configured 3 pfSense in the last 2 years. - We would have to use some kind of collaboration tool to achieve the updated documentation for all people. - The best way to configure a network is to segment it with the proper IP address and acls. I hope you give me the chance to work with you to implement the best settings for your pfSense network.

With regards to all of the question, please find my response 1. how big is your currently maintained network with pfSense (how many IPs, how many networks, how many VLANs) - I got 3 branches running Pfsense and have 2 vlan on it with /24 subnet. 2. how is your pfSense connected to the IXP (bandwidth, technology, redundancy)? Pfsense is not our perimeter firewall we got fortinet. with in terms of BWM I enable traffic shaping in rules per department/vlan 3- how many pfSense setups have you done in the last 2 years?5 setup was made and maintained OS 2.3.5 4. - how you ensure ongoing documentation of firewalls (topology, nat and firewall rules) with multiple administrative persons? all administrator should have the same documents changes will be made will be listed 5. - what is the best practice for IPv4 and IPv6 setup? It depends on the needs of the organization that you will setup. For small business without L3 switches I used different subnet for different departments and with L3 switches I used Vlan to separate networks and additional security as well. IP V6 was not able to implement this and quite new with this.
