The Mural Master website

We need a website with a platform that enables us to easily make frequent additions and alterations, and is straight forward for the customer to order. And it needs to be able to capture the information in some sort of simple bookkeeping system. We want to build an on-line catalogue of printed wall murals. As there will eventually be thousands of items and it will be a full-time job to enter them and keep them updated, we will do the data entry task in-house. Many years ago I worked in the advertising industry and we were taught that the formula for success of any advertisement was to achieve AIDA – Attention, Interest, Desire, Action, in that order, and if any one of those components was missing it would not be successful. We don’t want any ‘bells and whistles’, or moving images, or music included, and we don’t want any ‘Offers you can’t refuse’, or focus on prices, discounts etc. Our message needs to be straight forward, understated and give the reader confidence in our experience, capabilities, and the value and quality of the products. I have done a draft in Word as a guideline, and I am happy with the wording and layout generally. I don’t think the visual and copy needs much adjustment although I am open to any suggestions for fine tuning. The more important part of the task is to get the eCommerce designed and functioning efficiently. I have used the font, Century Gothic, in the Home Page heading as I prefer light open fonts. I have included a text box at the bottom of that page with keywords in a small font and faded back, as these will be picked up by the search engines, but as the wording is small and insignificant, hardly anybody would bother to read it. But even if they did it would be a plus as it might trigger some ideas for the reader. We want a minimum of two-way communication with potential customers as it is time consuming and gives them too much opportunity to not go ahead with the sale. Therefore, we will offer them a selection of sizes so that they can choose, commit, and pay for while they are hot. The murals are printed on a 3M wide roll (which becomes the height dimension) and may be available in various lengths. The following variations need to be taken into consideration > (1) Cost prices per square metre from a supplier are generally the same for all subjects but will not be the same as from a different supplier. (2) Some subjects were designed to be just 2M wide while others are continuous patterns, in which case we can offer it in any length. (3) Some subjects might be available in a choice of 3 or 4 colours. In the example in the attached layout the buyer would enter the length in metres that he/she requires, which multiplies by 3M (height) to arrive at the total M2 (square metres). Our algorithm should round this up to the next full M2, then multiply this by a preset AUD$/M2 to arrive at the selling price before shipping and GST (VAT). (I have attached a spreadsheet to give you an idea of how the final selling price would be arrived at). This price will include delivery cost and taxes, the details of which we do not want to disclose to the customer, as courier delivery costs are a major factor in the selling prices and they might frighten a buyer off.
