I worked on two POS systems. These systems are in more than 12,000 Grocery Retailers. ISS45 and ScanMaster run on a variety of platforms from Microsoft Windows 98 to Microsoft Windows XP.
ScanMaster was originally written using Visual Basic 3.0, and QuickBasic for DOS. ScanMaster currently uses Pervasive SQL 9.5 as the Database Engine and ISS45 uses Microsoft SQL 2000. BTRIEVE is the primary method of data storage for ScanMaster, but recently we moved into SQL and Crystal Reports for reporting. In the past we converted ScanMaster from Visual Basic 3 code to Visual Basic 6, this included creating custom controls, combining often used functions into recycled DLL's, and major feature implementation. ISS45 is currently my primary focus and have been assigned some very large projects to work on. Another of my primary roles is to convert existing customer data (no matter the source) to our database format. This is accomplished in many different ways including (but not limited to Data Pumping, Custom Programming, Access Database Import/Manipulation/Export, etc...). Many of the original ScanMaster conversions were written in QuickBasic and I have since converted most of them to Visual Basic 6.
Working on ISS45 is gaining me a lot of SQL experience and a lot of complex visual basic experience. This includes creating/modifying tables, complex stored procedures, Client/Server technologies, and ActiveX Servers and Controls.
Another of my tasks was in a Network Administrator role. I was the Assistant to the Network Administrator and was instrumental in the rollout of the corporate network schema in the USA. A lot of my previous experience was used to guide the design and setup of our branch of the corporate WAN. This included subnets within our branch to segment the WAN from our Lab environment, using Linux as a data monitor/gateway to the Lab Segment, etc...
