Contest Brief
We are a new theater company called "The Hive." We were successful in finding a terrific design for our first play here on Freelancer a few weeks ago (see attached). We would like you to create a poster for the world premiere of our second play. This one is called "The Bookbinder's Tale."
The play is an enchanted fable for adults. It's about telling the stories we each have within us, and how we must take responsibility and be the author of our own story. The bookbinder in the play tells the story of when he was a boy, he had a beloved, old book that he used to take into the woods to read. One day, a storm came up and blew many of the pages of the book away. He resolved to become a bookbinder to help preserve other stories. This serves in the play as the backdrop of a love triangle between three adults, so the design shouldn't look like it is for a children's play, although it could feature the child in the woods holding a book with pages blowing away out of the book. Books in general will be featured in the play itself. For example, a wall of books across the back of the set, or spiraling towers of books that look like trees, or a tunnel made out of books, or something along those lines. It isn't necessary to include books in the design, but we wanted to mention it in case it inspires you. But the poster should look enchanting.
The name of the play should be prominent, with the name of the writer and the director equal size beneath it (for now, make up names).
No photos of actors or scenes from the play, just strong graphics. (If you google "play posters" images, hopefully that will give you an idea of what we're looking for.
Please incorporate our logo somewhere on the poster, but it doesn't need to be a featured element or drive the color or look of the rest of the poster. Final art would have to be available in layers in Adobe Illustrator or another Adobe product. Please find logo attached.
Our first poster used a bottom section where we featured details about the dates of the play, the location, etc. We would like to keep that as a recurring element in each poster that we do, Ratio of the poster should be 12 inches by 18 inches. In this ratio, the bottom banner would be 12 inches by 4 inches.
Contest to run 14 days, however we reserve the right to close it sooner. If we do close it sooner than 14 days, we will give at least 24 hours notice.
Any questions, let me know and I will respond as soon as I can.
