Contest Brief

Website Creative Brief

About Ant Hive Games:

We are a small independent app and game developer located in Shanghai, China.
We are a Western run company that was established in 2009. We are an international group with our team made up of people from many different countries. We are a friendly, tight knit group of friendly people.

We develop different types of apps and games for various platforms and target markets. We focus on projects that interest us, which means we primarily focus on emerging technology and platforms such as VR, AR, 3D motion tracking, and sound/voice recognition.

The Old Website:

www.anthivegames.com

Q: What is good about the website?
A: Basically nothing.

Q: What is bad about the website?
A: Basically everything. It is old and outdated. The content has nothing to do with the what we work on currently, and does not reflect the current state of the company as far as quality.

Q: How long ago was it built? And who built it?
A: Many years ago by the founder of the company, who has ZERO experience in website design/building.

Q: What percentage of the traffic is from smart phones & tablets?
A: Not sure, but obviously in this day and age it can be assumed that many visitors will be using mobile devices so the new website should be built with looking nice on all types of devices in mind.

THE NEW WEBSITE:

Objectives:
1. First and foremost, get us up with the times!
2. Communicate that we ARE a high tech company working on advanced technologies.

Audience:
1. App and game industry professionals. Generally people get to our site through business development activities, and are people we are looking to do business with.
2. Job seekers. When recruiting, people will always check our website first to see if it looks like a company they want to work at.

Unique Selling Points:
1. We are a small agile group that can that can move quickly into emerging technologies and platforms.
2. We are fully stocked with development kits and have the US connections to the next wave of AR, VR and 3D motion sensor hardware companies. Which is a rare for a China based company.

Look and Feel:
Simple. Super Duper High-tech. Ahead of it's Time. Exciting Emerging Tech. Passionate Development Team.

Currently we don’t have any visuals that we plan to keep or use moving forward, other than our Logo.

Example sites:

Note that these examples are more about the type of things we are developing for, and should 'fit in' with the crowd, but we do not want to copy these sites. View them more as getting to know the industry references.

https://www.google.com/atap/project-tango/

https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-hololens/en-us

Content:

We would like to keep the sections simple and easy to update/maintain. Basically the main objective of the website is to generate interest from possible business partners. In that way we don’t want to say too much or too little. Basically get people interested and wanting to talk to us more.

We are open to suggestions, but as for specific sections, here is the basic idea:

About Us

Jobs

Inquiries

News and Info

Technical Requirements:

We will contract someone to build the site based from your design. So basically we need the assets delivered in such a way that they can be handed over to a developer and easily used to build the site. Meaning all art files need to be in a production ready state - sized, separated, etc.

Lastly, we will for sure need cool images for the website, ideally custom made images. But if you are intending to license images please make a note of the cost to license them.

ADDED: Some images from a Music Education App we have been heavily involved. It uses start of the art sound recognition and gaming elements to learn any instrument.

Hi All! So....I know I've gone on about making the design more 'Mobile' focused, but after a discussion with my partners here we may want to go with a stronger VR/AR focused site. In this case, some of the headset images are good to use. For the main page I think what we want is like something you see on the www.magicleap.com website, in that it's a real world picture with some fantasy image overlay....with that as the primary image there are several of the layouts presented here that i would be ok with, so really i think its going to come down to who can provide the most awesome main image.

So it's more about finding and using great images than actual web design? Magicleap is row of a great images and few titles. I'm not able to create nor find those kind of images for your project, so I guess I will stop working on design I started. Cheers

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you off. I do realize that I'll likely need to get the images done myself, so really I just mean that I'm looking for the right general direction when it comes to establishing the overall tone of the site.

Hi all! I uploaded some screen shots, which are marketing images for a project we have been heavily involved with. It uses state of the art sound recognition tech and gaming to help learn any instrument. I wanted to include these as source material of stuff that we are actually doing. I think everyone is going a bit over the top on the VR. currently our AR/VR projects are fairly small projects and completely under wraps...so would like to see it not be so much in forefront of the designs. Thanks again for all the entries!

    About Layout:
If you could explain briefly with your submissions how the site will be navigated that would help me. I’ve not ever had to evaluate website mock-up designs before, so maybe you are all following standard conventions for this type of work, but these are things I’m not clear on.

I get that the site needs to be visually exciting, but as mentioned in the brief we are more of a tech-focused studio so awesome artwork is in short supply.

Overall, I’m ok with simplicity when it comes what visuals are displayed. I’m mostly concerned with getting a nice logical framework that we can then add images into moving forward.

    About Images:
I like the images that look like they are coming from the technology manufacturers themselves, and obvious that is what they are, if we are to use images they should not mislead that it is our studio or products we made. I could probably get some good ‘ant hive lifestyle’ pictures of the studio, but would prefer not to make that the focal point.

I like the images that are more non-descript and kind of generally illustrating the concepts.

I understand you all are looking for something to go on, but would like to not see our old game images relied on too much, they are simply not that good, and do not reflect where we are heading. It is my intention to bury those away in some archive, or ‘company history’ section.

Try to avoid using large pictures of the VR headgear and other hardware. We a software company, so don’t want to give the impression that we make hardware.

Many are asking for more game images. The short answer is, there are none that I’m wanting or able to use. For now the site is not used to sell our apps directly. Also we are involved in several different projects at different levels, mostly from the tech side. I would like to be able to add some game or app screens later, but as for the main shell of the site I’d like to see it be able to stand on its own and not be dependant on game/app images.

The music learning sound recognition part should be the primary focus when it comes to displaying projects. This we have been working on for the past 2 years and has used up most of our time. I’ll send images for the product, which can be linked to the product site for it sometime later.

as for game screenshots. we are working on mostly tech and not too much art these days, so would prefer to try and use images of the devices themselves mostly....but I will gather up what I can and post here on monday

yes, just PSD, but would like that file be as production ready as possible so that it can be handed off to a web developer to build the site easily.
