Design logo and icon for software product called Excelerate

Contest Brief

I need a logo and icon for a software product called Excelerate. Excelerate is a software program for preparing various types of data for use by any data mining or analytics software, and/or performing data mining or analytics on any such prepared data. (The native file format for the software is the same as Microsoft Excel, that is, .xlsx)

There should be an icon that can be used as the software icon on the computer and that can also be used in the logo.

So, the deliverables should be:
1. Logo with icon
2. Icon
3. Logo without icon

The logo should be more "business professional" than 'cutesy' or cartoon-like, though feel free to be creative. Don't obsess over color in the beginning. I'm not saying that you shouldn't give me a good color choice in the beginning; I'm just saying that I'm more concerned about the design in the beginning than I am about the color. Color can always be refined later.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not need to see the logo:
1. embossed
2. on a glass wall
3. on a business card
4. on a white wall
5. etched in metal
6. at an angle
At this point I'm just looking at the design. Please submit on plain background. And, please present in a straight-on view and not at an angle. Thanks.

    WE HAVE FINISHED VOTING AND HAVE PICKED A WINNER. The winner will be revealed shortly. First, I wanted to thank all the designers for their excellent submissions. You made our task of selecting the winner very hard. We had hoped that, after we were finished with the multiple rounds of voting, a single design would be the unanimous winner. That was not the case. When finished the last round of voting we had 3 designs and these 3 designs could not receive a unanimous vote. So, we reviewed each voter's top 5 designs. We found one design that was in every top 5, but actually did not make it into the final 3. We all decided that this design had all of the essential elements we were looking for and we were all happy to choose it as our excellent compromise choice. Thanks!

    TO ALL DESIGNERS: I have received so many designs that I will only keep the best design of each designer and reject all the rest. That way I can look at the best each designer has to narrow down the search. So, I will be rejected designs today and tomorrow. If you haven't gotten your best design in, then you better do it now. Once I have each designers best design, our company will have an internal vote to get a group of just the best designs. Once we have done that we will have a final vote and award the contest winner.
