Write a FIFA World Cup PARODY article in the style of TheOnion.com

Contest Brief

First and foremost, please, confirm that you understand what theonion.com (aka "benign" fake news) does.

The following scenario shall be the premise for the PARODY article:

- FIFA has determined that in the game between Panama and Honduras, which took place on June 13th 2017 as part of the CONCACAF qualification campaign for the World Cup, both teams had an illegal agreement to play to a draw
- Therefore, Panama and Honduras are stripped off the 1 point they gained, and Panama is disqualified from the World Cup
- The US men's national team takes Panama's spot in Group G.

Again, this shall be a PARODY article in the style of theonion.com, i.e. it should not be obvious that it's "fake news" (but don't worry, we will publish it with a disclaimer).

Everything else about the game must be factual. If you quote any statistics, please, include a link, so that we can verify them.

Also, try not to be too ridiculous. It's OK to bring in the political angle (US, Russia, etc.), but leave, for example, the #MeToo movement out of this.

One of the most important criteria for judging your article shall be whether you articulated a compelling reason for why PAN and HON would fix their match.

Finally, the article shall be at least 1,000 words long. May the best writer win!

P.S. Please, note that we use plagiarism checkers (e.g. https://www.grammarly.com/plagiarism-checker) and will report any plagiarism as an attempt to defraud us.

Since we are already getting some high-quality entries, the winner may end up being just marginally better than anyone else. To help you get over the bar, please, articulate a compelling reason for why the PAN v. HON match was fixed.

Hey, don't award this thing yet. I am doing a story that connects disgraced FIFA executive vice-president of corruption, Jack Warner, Seattle Sounders billionaire owner Nick Hanuare; Joe Roth (Former chairman of both 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney) and Paul Allen (microsoft co-founder). The guy at the center of it all is Roman Torres, the Panama Captain who scored at the stroke of 90 minutes. There was something special about the way he celebrated that goal and I am capitalizing on that. Wait 3 hours more.

Another advice: please, don't lay it on too thick. It's OK to bring in the political angle (US, Russia, etc.), but not the #MeToo movement.

Hi! Can I send you a sample, like an intro to the article, and if you like it, I'd finish piece? I don't want to write 1k word long article without being sure it'll be accepted, especially in this case, as it would be a hard-sell and I can't shop it around elsewhere.

No, we can't accept that. However, it's fine if you post a first draft of the article only, i.e. it may have some grammar mistakes, etc.

Please, make sure that all stats in your article are verifiable. For example, if you state that Panama had 70% possession, post a link from where you got that information.
