Contest Brief
The Da Vinci Workshop is looking for 10 How To articles to post to our site.
For this contest we are looking for the articles to have a focus on Caft & Design projects to include but not limited to: art & sculpture, paper & other crafts, costumes & makup (think Comic Con not Barbie), music & Instruments, yarncraft & needlecraft, photography & video, etc… that are great projects for Do it Yourselfers to complete during the summertime season.
A How To provides the reader a set of step-by-step instructions and photographs of a specific project, including a list of tools and materials that others can use to reproduce the project based on the documentation you have provided. The greater the documentation you can provide the reader in your How To, the better.
When writing for The Da Vinci Workshop please keep the following in mind: You are essentially teaching the reader. Think of your reader as an equally intelligent person, that just doesn’t necessarily know everything you know. With that in mind, try to anticipate the questions your reader might have about your How To. It may help to think back to the questions you had when you were first working on your project. Explain everything they will need to know in order to recreate what you are writing about, and do so in an easy-to-read manner, as if you were having a casual conversation with your reader. Describe the difficulties you encountered, the solutions you discovered, and suggest alternative workarounds.
Things you should and should not do if you want your articles to be considered for The Da Vinci Workshop:
You Should:
• Submit your very best work.
• Have a minimum of 200 words.
• Shoot landscape-oriented photographs that are a minimum of 1200px wide. The higher the quality the better.
• Use consistent language and be precise in your writing. Use smaller words in the place of larger words when available.
• Use correct terms for materials, components, and processes. If you are unsure what the proper name for something is, please look it up.
• Define your directions and areas carefully and consistently throughout your article. (i.e. top, bottom, right end, left edge, etc.)
You Should Not:
• Plagiarize or submit work that does not belong to you. This includes, without exception, all visual assets. Do not provide assets of which you do not have the rights (public domain, open source, and your personal intellectual property are all allowed).
• Submit content that is of a pornographic, violent, or hateful nature.
• Use this to advertise a product. Articles that show a use/application for a commercial product are fine.
• Include affiliate/referral links in your article.
We look forward to reviewing your submissions and Good Luck!
