The objective of the Wiki-Assignment is twofold. It seeks to use media and communication theory as a lens to reflect on Wikipedia and larger issues around the impact of media and communication on society. It also seeks to engage in academic research on a topic of personal interest that will improve collective knowledge about this topic.
Section 1: 750 word Wikipedia Entry
It is expected to add at least 750 words worth of referenced text. You must add at least two (2) sources to the Wikipedia page. Sources can be newspaper articles, historical documents, webpages, articles and the like
Pay particular attention to the style and tone of Wikipedia entries. Writing in a personal anecdotal style is not appropriate nor is academic essay language. You are contributing to an encyclopedia article and thus your entry should be written in a direct, unbiased and factual style seen in line with other Wikipedia entries.
Section 2: 1200 word Reflective Essay
Write a reflective essay which uses theories I will show you in order to explain and reflect upon the significance of being able to use Wikipedia and create the assignment at hand. This reflection should demonstrate an understanding of theory and include and cite of 4 academic sources related to the theory or theories discussed. The essay should be 1,200 words excluding references.
