We require a reliable, skilled and team-friendly programmer who is capable of working on an extensively modified X-Cart website at www.aromantic.co.uk. The website is running well and requires certain customisations – 15 in total, details of which are contained in the associated document ‘[url removed, login to view]'. Most of these are ‘tweaks' and small but important enhancements to the functionality of either the front or back end (admin). In two cases (Easy Product Editor and Quick Order) major new features have been programmed and require minor changes before they can be made live.

Some of the new components have been coded in Ajax and it would be advantageous to have Ajax programming skills. However, these components require only minor interventions but it is your responsibility to determine if you are capable of working on this project or not. If you are unsure please do not place a bid.

You are expected to work on these items in the order of priority as listed in the attached document. Each item must be completed in turn and fully tested and approved by me before you are to proceed to the next item.

REFERENCES

Please provide URLs of at least 3 e-commerce websites that you have worked on in the past 2 years, preferably including any X-Cart websites. We may also contact the website owners to verify that you worked with them.

HAND OVER

Our previous programmer has offered to assist you in providing any technical information required so that you can understand the work required or history of what has been changed in the code. However, we cannot guarantee the level of support that he will provide and rely upon his goodwill to assist you in the handover process. Contact details of the previous programmer will be provided to the appointed programmer.

TEST SERVER

A test version of the website exists on the same server at [url removed, login to view] You are required to work always on the test server first until the code has been tested. Once this has been approved you will be asked to move the changed files to the live version and then test again.

IMPORTANT!

You are expected always to test your own work thoroughly before asking me to check this. This is a complex site, so you are required to consider very carefully all possible implications to changing any code in the effect that this may have on other functionality. If a code change causes bugs in other areas of the website you will be expected to reverse the code change immediately and then further work on the code until a solution is found. Apart from the bugs reported in the associated document submitted with this project description all parts of the website and shopping cart are assumed to be running error-free. Your absolute priority is therefore to maintain at all times a fully functioning live website version that does not cause disruption to the services.

BACKUP

You are expected to always make backups of any files you work on (both on the live and test sites) so that an immediate reversal can be implemented if required. You are also required to back up the mySQL database at any critical stages.

COMMUNICATION and SUPPORT

Clear, honest and professional communication is a vital requirement for working with us! You will be expected to keep in close contact, report regularly and take responsibility for obtaining any information you need from the appropriate source.

It is expected that you will have questions and require clarification on a task by task basis. For technical questions we hope that the previous programmer will be able to assist you. Communication will also be necessary between you and the project manager, preferably by Skype – both chat and voice. Skype meetings need to be scheduled in advance via email or SMS. You will be supported as much as possible so that you can carry out your work in an optimum environment. Our commitment is to be available at least 1-2 hours per week for a regular Skype meeting to discuss progress and address any specific issues. The project manager will also attempt to be available to support you also in between these meetings. However, due to heavy workload this cannot always be guaranteed.

FUTURE WORK

We are looking for a permanent programmer to manage this website and possibly other projects on a monthly basis. If this collaboration is successful and if you are interested in a regular contract then this project would be a perfect opportunity for you to gain this position.
