I need a? function to determine? the unique server identification.? The server name is not adequate as you can name a server anything you want and world wide? you can have the same name on multiple servers.? I know that I cannot use the serial number of the CPU as by default this is turned off on? most servers.? ? So I was thinking I could use the MAC address of the network card, but I'm not sure how to determine the first? network card? in case the server has multiple cards.? ? And I'm not sure how? this? will work on a virtual server.?

If you do not have a better way to uniquely determine a server's uniqueness, I want a vb.net function that will read the MAC address of the server that is passed to it (so the program can be? run? from another machine and I can remotely determine the MAC address of the server I am pointing to).

What happens if there are multiple cards?? Even though the IP would stay the same, does the MAC address change?
