Ongoing Webmaster / Programmer
We are seeking a webmaster / programmer to look after and monitor one of our e-commerce sites and to make programming improvements on an on-going basis.
Our website is a medium-sized but busy website, in the top 100,000 websites worldwide according to [[url removed, login to view]][1]. It is therefore essential to us that you should be experienced and be able to provide us with good references from your previous work. We are based in Melbourne, Australia.
The site is hosted by Rackspace in the US on a dedicated Linux server.
The shopping cart of our website is based on osCommerce and the forum is based on phpBB. The content management system is a custom-built system written in PHP and using MySQL.
## Deliverables
This initial job is to look after the site for a period of one month and we expect the webmaster / programmer to work on our site on a daily basis, spending about 20 hours per week on this task (say 85 hours for the month). We are looking for a long-term partner, so you should consider this as a trial evaluation period leading to a longer-term relationship.
We would prefer to work with a single webmaster / programmer (rather than a team) so that we can be confident of your commitment and increasing understanding of the working of our website.
We expect that the webmaster to spend about one hour each day checking the website, going through the logs, fixing any errors that may have occurred, and so on. We would like daily reports on what is happening on the site, problems encountered and what actions were taken to fix the problems.
We would also appreciate the webmaster to also come back to us with suggestions of improvements if something that is not working as efficiently as it should.
The remaining time would be involved with programming improvements and changes that we would suggest. Some of these will be only small jobs, and others may be bigger.
We are working on continually improving our relationship with our customers, so this is why we require additional programming. This ranges from filtering our email lists to send out targetted emails, through to changes to the web site to improve search engine rankings, through to new features on the site.
We see this job as requiring approximately 50% of a programmer's time over the period of the project. We would like to have very close communications between our team and the webmaster / programmer.

- Experience with medium to large sized websites
- Experience with PHP, mySQL and osCommerce
- Experience with Javascript and AJAX an advantage
- Good track record and references from previous work
- Available for communication by IM or phone for part of the Australian day
- Commitment to quality
- Available for longer-term contract if this initial task is successful
