We have a need for garden-profile stories for a publication that is about organic food gardening.
We are currently doing our own work, but would like to find a Photojourno in each of QLD, WA, VIC and TAS who can do a batch of 5 jobs. This work suits someone who is set up as a freelancer, has an interest in gardening, and knows people with interesting gardens. A job is to implement one garden and submit, then if ok, we will proceed to 4 more (total 5).
We require copyright assignment (we print online as well as print). Credit to the Photojourno and garden owners are always provided.
Each Garden Folk Story includes:
• Research of suitable gardens, contacting owner, asking if they’d like to share their stores with others and do a shoot.
• Travelling to the location of the garden, and having a stroll with the owner.
• Writing 1200 words. Must include:
o What they are growing
o Advice on growing something
o Advice on what they do with the finished produce
• Supplying 10 Images from which 6 are usually selected. Must include:
o 2 or 3 good shots of the couple or individual who have created the garden
o 1 or 2 context shots showing whole of garden
o 3 or 4 detail shots showing what is being grown or whimsical stuff
A Garden Folk Story as a human story as much as a gardening story – the lives of the people are revealed through their garden. Young men who are in to gardening and ethnic faces are desired by the publication.
We often start each story with a questionnaire, and stroll through the garden. From this the stories emerge.
