The “Real” Cost of a Facelift?
Facelift surgery is expensive and you don’t always get what you pay for. Done right facelift surgery requires a skilled surgeon; a professional plastic surgeon with advanced skills and training in a medical specialty. It is recommended that when considering facelift surgery your first decision be to select the right plastic surgeon.
Professional care doesn’t come cheap. In fact facelift surgery has three charges: the anesthesia fee, the facility fee, and the plastic surgeon’s fee. It is the plastic surgeon’s fee that makes up the majority of the cost of facelift surgery. As with any professional fee your plastic surgeon’s charge will be based upon one major criterion: the extent of the required surgery AND the qualifications of the plastic surgeon.
Nationwide the average cost facelift cosmetic surgery performed by a qualified plastic surgeon ranges from $4,500 to as much as $12,000. The cost for anesthesia ranges from $1,000 to $1,300. The facility or hospital fee can range from $500 to $2,000. Knowing your plastic surgeon and what they charge should be your first step before undergoing facelift surgery.
Evaluating the Cost
What is required for your facelift surgery to be successful? The answer to this question is something that you and your plastic surgeon need to openly discuss. Cost will vary with the extent of the procedure. For example if you have a lifetime of skin abuse due to exposure to the sun you can expect that your skin will be dry and stiff thus making the facelift procedure is more difficult and time consuming than for more elastic skin. Each facelift is unique, so it is impossible to simply answer the question, "How much will the facelift cost?" Cost can be more accurately predicted after the surgeon has performed an examination and developed a surgical plan.
It is not unusual for a patient to elect to undergo additional services at the time of their facelift. Among the services that are often done are eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), forehead lift (brow lift), nose surgery (rhinoplasty), chin surgery, facial implants and skin treatments. Each additional procedure drives up the total cost of surgery. In fact there are patients who will spend more than $25,000 for a facelift, when combined with additional plastic surgery procedures and other treatments. It is important to closely examine these other procedures at the time you elect to undergo a facelift. You may be able to save a substantial amount of money by combining procedures rather than having each one performed individually
