For sure it is not a reason. If you didn't changed anything then not_upgrading a kernel could not be a reason of a functionality regression. If you have a well maintained system it should be trivial to tune postfix to work with mailgun service, however since I can't predict issues that might appear on a system that is not under my care, it would be better to re-post this project on a hourly rate basis.

I don't think so....Iptables should just work. Anyway kernel update is easy job, but Postfix configuration can be a pain especially the server is badly configured.
