**Background:** I? have a network device that communicates with multiple audio electronic components via Infrared and Serial connections for control of their functions (volume up/down, etc..). It merely relays the received commands to the appropriate port on the device (serial1, IR2, etc). I have been able to connect to the device with windows terminal, and send/rcv commands/feedback. The connection, I believe is a TCP socket to the device IP address at port 4999. I don't think UDP works with the device.
**Request:** Basically I want a GUI that would act as an onscreen remote control, by sending the pre-programmed commands to my network device on button presses. The commands must be customizable(pre-compile). Commands are anywhere from 4-1000 characters, like "P1P0{return}". The running program does not need to take any kind of user input(just button presses).
**1. Ideal:** A flash movie that would send commands(ASCII data) to something like a "plug-in" in a flash player, which would maintain the connection with the network device and send messages back and forth. In this case I would want to get supplied to me the "plug-in" with instructions and a single button movie that would send a command to the device (I can modify the flash movie for my situation). This only has to work on 1-2 computers. I originally wanted Flash actionscript to talk to the device, but doesn't seem possible. --I doubt my ideal solution would fit into my budget, so...
**2.** **I'll settle with:** An interface with a bunch of labeled buttons, probably about 20-30, that would change (buttons) for the current device that needs to be controlled. It would just need to create and maintain 3-4 sockets to the device on different ports. On each button press it would send data to the necessary socket, and maybe display feedback in a text box. Simple, eh?? I need VisBasic or VisC++ if going this route.
If possible a method that would use flash would be given preference.
