Add functionality to WordPress design.
We're seeking someone familiar with Wordpress to add functionality to the attached design.
Linux, Apache, MySQL & PhP or Perl experience preferred. Must be able to code elements beyond plugins already available for Wordpress.
## Deliverables
General -
* Advertising - Some type of banner ad management system for the various ad
spaces on the site.
* Automatic Image Resizing - There are a few areas on the site where images
need to be associated with News Stories and Shows (Featured Article,
Featured Shows, and News Column on the Homepage and also in the Directory).
We'd like the images to be automatically resized in those instances.
* RSS Feeds - We will constantly be posting News Stories and Shows to the
site. These are two different types of posts. We'd like to have a specific
RSS feed for each. We'd also like to have a third RSS feed which will be
for all site updates (News Stories AND Shows).
* E-mail Newsletter - We'd like to have an option to sign up for our weekly
e-mail newsletter. Check out [[login to view URL]][1] <<[login to view URL]>> and
scroll down on the right hand side where the subscription options are. See
how they offer both daily AND weekly updates? We'd like similar
functionality. So, for our site, if a user entered his e-mail and clicked
daily updates then they would be subscribed via e-mail to the RSS feed for
all site updates. If they clicked weekly updates, they would be subscribe
to our newsletter.
* Suggest a Show - We'd like there to be a submission form here with
specific fields that we can provide.
HomePage (See attached image) -
* Featured News Story - We'd like the default placement of the latest News
Post to be the featured section up top. Then, as more News stories are
posted, it gets moved to the News column and gets pushed down as more and
more stories are posted. However, we'd also like the ability to override
this order, making it so we can check a box on the backend and that News
Story will appear in the Featured News Section regardless of when it was
posted. When the button is unclicked, the News Story will return to its
regular position.
If a user clicks on a Featured or other News Story on the Homepage, he will
be taken to that specific News article.
* Featured Shows - We'd like the ability to make any Show a Featured Show.
On the backend, we would check a box to make the show Featured and it would
appear on the Homepage in the Featured Shows column. We would also like to
be able to assign it a Featured Shows number that would correspond to its
position in the column.
If a user clicks on a Featured Show on the Homepage, he will be taken to
that specific Show's page.
* Featured Video - We'd like this to double as Advertising/Sponsorship
space with 4 square ads similar to the ones seen on [[login to view URL]][2]
<<[login to view URL]>> (or possibly 2 rectangular ads on top of one
another).
Directory (See attached image - Only top portion shown) -
* Programming - We'd like to be able to program what shows appear on the
main Directory page. Again, this could be controlled by a box to check in
the backened.
* Brose By - The directory should be able to be sorted by Most Recent,
Alphabetical, Most Viewed, Highest Rated.
Show Pages - (See attached image - Only top portion shown.
* Images - Note that each Show Page will have two images associated with
it. One for the Directory and Similar Shows, and one for the Featured Shows
on the Homepage.
* Subscribe - Go to the following page - <[login to view URL]>.
See the "Subscribe" icon. If you fly over that you will be given different
subscription options for that show that we input on the backend.. We'd like
to incorporate this into the new site. The rest of that section (Preview,
More Info, Episode List, Write Review, Subscribe, etc.) we don't need.
* Left-Hand Side - The space for information about the shows is too wide
right now. We'd like to incorpoate a column on the left-hand side that
lists Most Recently Added shows (We're also considering putting more
advertising below).
* Ratings - We'd like users to be able to rate shows. ONLY Shows. Not
News Articles.
* Similar Shows - Below the information we post for the Show, we'd like a
list of Similar Shows to appear below. Ideally, these would appear
automatically and be based on Tags. We ONLY want Show Posts to show up
here. No News posts.
Please see our site for an example: Scroll down to the "Similar Sites"
section on this page - [[login to view URL]<wbr />d][3].
* Related News - Below the information we post for the Show, we'd like a
section that shows articles that [login to view URL] has written about the show.
Scroll down to the "News" section on this page for an example -
<[login to view URL]>
We can associate these articles manually in the backend. Ideally, when
writing an article in the manager, there could be a menu that lets you
associate that article with multiple Show Pages.
* Related Outside News - Below the information we post for the Show, we'd
like a section that shows articles other sources have written about the
show. We can input these into the backend manually. For an example of this
on a different site, [login to view URL] does something similar (scroll down and look at
the "News Headlines" and "User-submitted News" sections -
[[login to view URL]<wbr />-hill/show/16942/[login to view URL]][4])
News (See attached image - Only top portion shown) -
* Images - Note that each News Article will have two images associated with
it. One for the Featured Article, and one for the News Column.
* Left Hand-Side - The space for the news articles is too wide right now.
On the left hand side should be a column for Latest News Stories. (We're
also considering putting more advertising below).
* Related News Articles - When you're on a News Article's specific page,
below that article, we'd like to show a listing of Related News. Ideally
this would be done automatically based on Tags. We ONLY want News Posts to
show up here. No Show Posts.
* Related Shows - When you're on a News Article's specific page, below that
article, we'd like a separate section for Related Shows. We can enter these
manually.
