I have a .net application that installs into IIS and uses MSDE or MS SQL.
I need an installer for this app.
The installer would have to check the local machine for the needed requirments ( .NET Framework, IIS) then it will have to-
-Create Virtual Directory in IIS
-Give user a choice of Database (MSDE or MS SQL Server)
--If user chooses MSDE and MSDE is not installed, it will download it from Microsoft Site and use it.
--If user chooses MS SQL Server, it will allow them to browse for it (local or network) (must have ability to enter network credentials) through the installer.
(the ability to choose the database type and search for the SQL Server is important to this project)
Second, upgrades to my original package happen regularly, so the abiltiy to easily upgrade the app would also have to be taken into consideration.
NOTE - In an ideal world, if the user installing this does not the required .NET Framework and or MSDE, I would like to see a automated way that they could obtain the software from an external source(microsoft site). (bandwidth use would be gigantic if it were packaged internaly)
NOTE 2 - My app does not include any sort of piracy protection. Is there a way to inject some sort of piracy protection on the installation package? (client server authentication?)
NOTE 3- I am not worried about protecting the actual application (sounds strange)... But I want to control how the installer is used.
