CELEBRATE the independence day of a foreign country

SHORT DESCRIPTION: We are looking for people in South America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to creatively celebrate one of the following independence days in your country/home/town/village on the specified date. * Australia (January 1, 2014) * Sudan and South Sudan (January 1, 2014) * Myanmar/Burma (January 4, 2014) After you celebrate, email us a photo or video as documentation of your celebration with a short message to the people of that country and a short description of what you did to celebrate their independence on that day. Also, post the documentation on the group Facebook page: [login to view URL] FULL DESCRIPTION of project: The project is called "59 Days of Independence". We are trying to get as many people as possible from around the world to celebrate the independence days of all 59 countries that, at some point in history, gained independence from British rule. The most important part of the project is that people celebrate a country OTHER than their own and that they do so on that country's independence day. Throughout the year, you will be able to see people from all over the world celebrating the independence days of people other than themselves. The project is based upon the idea of "Freedom for ALL, not just for me." At the end, we will use all of the documentation to make a book called "59 Days of Independence." Currently, we have 30+ celebrations planned by participants from over 20 countries. Our goal is to get as many people as possible from as many different countries as possible doing as many different things as possible to celebrate the 59 days. Typically, this is all volunteer (we don't have a budget--we are artists ourselves) but we want to extend payment to some people out there from countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America so that we truly have global representation from the very start of the project. If you are interested in applying, please tell us (1) what country you are from (2) what country you wish to celebrate: Australia (Jan 1), Sudan & South Sudan (Jan 1) or Myanmar/Burma (Jan 4) (3) how you will celebrate it. We want every celebration to be different. We are encouraging people to think about what they do ALREADY and how they can creatively dedicate it to their country of choice on that day. Here are some examples of events that people have planned: There is a man from Egypt creating the "Egyptian Independence Day Darting Tournament" on Egypt's independence day (July 23). There is a teacher from America who is hiking up a mountain with her students carrying the flag of Guyana on Guyana's independence day (May 26). There is an artists' association in Kenya that is creating an outdoor wall mural that reads "Happy Independence Day to our Friends in Grenada" and unveiling it on Grenada's independence day (February 7th). There is a woman from Kuwait who is hosting an on-line, live, event with local Kuwaiti musicians to celebrate the independence day of Jordan (May 25th). There is a dancer from London who is choreographing a new dance based on the dodo bird and performing it along the Thames River on Mauritius' independence day (March 12).
