Deep linking XML Flash component

I have a XML-based News List Flash component that I have used to display News Stories webpage. The scrolling news list is on the left and when the user clicks on an item from the list it displays the full story on the right side of the page. Both the news list and full news stories are popullated by XML and HTML files. It works great on its own but my client wants to feature certain stories on the homepage and have them link to the specific stories on the News page. The problem is that the News List component is set up to only display stories when a user clicks on an item from the list on the left. I need to be able to deep link to certain stories within this News component. You can see the component in action here. You'll notice that the stories to not show up until you click on an item from the list: [login to view URL] I know that SWFaddress can work in normal Flash files but I am not sure about this project since it is XML driven.
