I have a slightly sagging roof that has caused cracks in the ceiling drywall in the winter with our lovely Canadian snowload. The roof is constructed of 2x6 rafters with 2x4 collar ties. There is an existing support wall to brace the roof. However, this is exactly where there are many large cracks in the ceiling. I would like to move this support wall and angle it towards an existing interior wall to carry the load without cracking the ceiling. This wall is on the main floor of the house. There is another wall underneath it in the basement. I was also thinking of sistering up several of the rafters to double the strength if possible. I have attached a rough schematic of the roof and ceiling section with dimensions.
Does this seem acceptable to you? Just looking for an expert opinion.
Thanks.
