I've already taken a lot of the basic measures to improve site speed but I am still not satisfied. I believe my chosen theme is just fundamentally quite sluggish. I think with a few tweaks to the code it could be sped up. Namely hard coding the images that are currently generated though javascript, removing unused CSS and creating image sprites for the homepage. If you are capable of performing these changes please get in touch.
