Create a Visual Studio Code equivalent of a MakeFile

I am familiar with C and have to work with a C project on Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) at the moment it is compiled with a single line shell script which contains the following line gcc -static -DUSE_LIBV4L2 obfiscated.c main.c v4l2grab.c lib/libv4l2/.libs/libv4l2.a lib/libv4lconvert/.libs/libv4lconvert.a -ldl -lm -lrt -pthread -O3 -Wall -fvisibility=hidden -s -flto -o [login to view URL] I need to debug the program and thought it might be time to move over to Visual Studio Code. I ran a simple Hello world but I don't really have the time to research the appropriate json files that need to be set up to (make) build and debug the aforementioned project. I am therefore looking for either a professional that could no doubt set up a full build / debug for the above in minutes, or someone with less experience that would have the time to work how to do it appropriately.
