CMS Project for Newspaper

We currently have is an OLD Mac based application called NewsEdit Pro by Baseview (bought out by Newscycle Solutions) that parses and categorizes the API newsfeed from a windows PC running the AP application. What we will need is a Web based program running on our Windows Server using SQL that we can customize the folders that are searched and displayed on the workstations for content. Here is the list of categories that are AP sends out so that they are coded and you can figure out where they go, if they are local sports, and the like. CATEGORIES: Advisory Entertainment Features Financial Food General News International Lifestyle Politics Scores Sports State State Headlines Travel Unknown-Z Washington Weather INTERFACE The user would open the “Application” screen and they can bring up and set to whatever category they want to watch in a ‘Live’ Folder format (see attached screen shot), and then resize that window in a corner of your screen. They could bring up several of these to watch different categories if needed. The pages would automatically refresh as new stories come in. This screen displaying the stories would have the Name, Date Modified, Size and Kind information and could be sorted ascending/descending on each of these items. The user could click on the story (or on the view/edit) to get the FORMATTED text of the story in a viewer (WHAT/HOW) which they would then copy/paste into Adobe InDesign. The issue here would be if the text from the newsfeed is in HTML, how well would that paste into Adobe InDesign, and/or do we need to do any formatting on this text BEFORE we Cut and Paste it. There is no need to save changes made to stories in this software, just offer the stories up as they come in, categorize them, make the categories customizable, and make the categories searchable. The stories that are ‘cached’ on the server would have a lifetime of 24 hours and then would age out and be deleted. This should be customizable for whatever we needed.
